Mr. Tawky Tawny
Age: Tiger :: Nationality: Tiger :: Occupation: Tiger
Currently in: Gotham City
Character Background
- Originally just a child's cuddly toy, Mr. Tawky Tawny was a stuffed tiger doll in a green checked suit jacket, tie and pants. Significantly older than Billy Batson, it is unclear where he actually came from prior to being in Billy's possession. His production likely dates to the 1940s.
- Once was used to hide the Scarab Amulet which was the secret to Black Adam's power, and some of the magic rubbed off on the doll. That magic gave Mr. Tawky Tawny a form of sentience, but no physical abilities. Still, he was connected to the magic through which the power of Black Adam and Captain Marvel flow, and watched Billy Batson for years before communicating the thought that this boy should become the next Captain Marvel, to the old man via a magical psychic connection.
- Upon Billy's receipt of the powers of Captain Marvel, the magic inside Mr. Tawky Tawny finally manifested, with the help of Ibis the Invincible, and he was instructed to be a guide and mentor to the new Captain Marvel. But nerves, and a desire not to scare Billy has so far kept Mr. Tawky Tawny from transforming into his true self - an anthropomorphic, talking tiger well over six feet tall - while Billy or anyone else is around, though he's building up the courage to do so soon.
Raw Material
- When in his doll form, Mr. Tawky Tawny just looks like an average cuddly toy, and physically is one.
- In his tiger-man form, Mr. Tawky Tawny is a huge, hulking, anthropomorphic tiger standing at 6'6" tall, around 300 lbs, and made of muscle. He often chooses to appear wearing a suit and tie, though the style can change on his whim. He is able to talk and reason, as well as fight. In a fight he acts much like a tiger - brutal.
- His spirit is ageless, and possesses a keen intelligence. Though he did not have to age like a human would, he considers himself an adult and prefers to be treated like one. He also enjoys a well-made martini.
- Does have difficulty separating the knowledge granted to him from his own thoughts and experiences. Speaks in an archaic fashion, regarding word choice and sentence structure.
- He can turn from doll form to tiger-man form, and back, in an instant. This could lead to someone overhearing a conversation between Billy and a deep-voiced grown-up, through a door, but upon entry they would just find Billy and his old stuffed tiger toy. Mr. Tawky Tawny is generally hesitant about being seen by strangers if it would compromise Billy's secret identity.
- Sees justice very differently from the lenient, kid-glove approach that most have. He will kill to save someone, or kill to punish someone, and thinks that justice is served either way. He is not a big, huggable cartoon when in tiger-man form. He is a big, scary mofo.
Plot Ideas
- A tiger-man wants to go for a drink in Gotham City.
- Something big and hulking is spotted at Brentwood Academy at night, sneaking to the kitchen and back for a meaty midnight snack.
- Someone who may be able to sense/see magic might realize there's something off about the tiger doll that Billy keeps in his room, and investigate, possibly triggering Mr. Tawky Tawny to transform.
- Hearing Billy and Mr. Tawky Tawny having a conversation, and attempting to catch them in the act.
- In a fight with baddies, Mr. Tawky Tawny straight-up mauls a dangerous criminal to death. He is a tiger, after all.
- Furry convention comes to Gotham. Someone is needed to infiltrate to find someone suspected of planting a bomb. (Yes, I know this is dumb, but just imagine the cringe factor hilarity.)
- Catnip, laser pointers, and cardboard boxes, anyone? He may be a big kitty, but he's still a kitty.
- Mr. Tawky Tawny goes on a date.
Existing Relationships
- Billy Batson - Owner of Mr. Tawky Tawny in doll form, and Billy's best friend. Acts as a sort of sounding board and mentor to Billy.
- Ibis the Invincible - A god of sorts, whose power is tied to the same source as Captain Marvel and Black Adam. Gave Mr. Tawky Tawny life, but does not generally interact in the mortal plane.
- Barbara Gordon - Encountered in an alley whilst in pursuit of a purse-snatcher.
