The Oscars people have uploaded up one of those VFX reel doodads, so you can see how some of the iconic shots for TFA came together.
Kinda surprised at how much green/blue screen was involved. Of course there is, because a lot of that stuff just isn't physically possible, but the VFX team did such a fantastic job blending the practical and digital elements together that I just completely forgot to notice. It's cool seeing all the different tricks and techniques he used too - filming the cockpit scenes outside to take advantage of natural light and shadows, and having lightsabers that actually illuminate so the lighting in the scenes is "real"... damned clever, Mr Abrams.
