Commodore Ikthoos took a seat at one of the lounges that were typically reserved for the higher ranking officers. Up until recently, they were off-limits as he was a Captain and more suited to the bars where violence seemed to visit so often. To Rhinn, it was ironic that in peace, not war, he had managed to climb higher up the miltary ladder than he thought. True, it was due to attrition, but this wasn't an attrition of death, but one of politics. Most of the ranking officers of the military had retired when the Alliance of Free Planets and Galactic Empire has decided peace. Most had taken up political appointments like senators and governors and ministers and the such. For Rhinn, that was never a dream that he wanted to hyperspace toward.

Being Duros, he knew that his love of wandering... the wanderlust, was too great and he knew it was only ever satisfied at the helm of a ship. Once he retired from the military, he would buy a freighter and spend the rest of his life hopping around the galaxy.

For now... there were still things to do and he was needed.

With the vaccuum at the top of experienced and skilled active officer, he was able to move up and that let him enjoy some of the perks of command... like this lounge that served some of the finest alcohol he had ever tasted.

Presently, a bing on his datapad sounded off, alerting Rhinn to the fact that he had a message. Putting down his glass, he pulled the datapad out of his pocket and thumbed it on. Scrolling down, he saw there was a message from Fleet Command to meet in the the Republic Room.

Rhinn, knowing the message sounded innocent and with no emotion, still felt his heart jump a bit. He knew that he was being re-assigned. After years of battling the Galactic Empire, there had been peace. His contribution, while not destroying any Death Stars, was not inconsequential. He had led more raids, smash and grabs, hit and holds, hit and fades, whatever you called them, than most of the active officers had. His success had led to the destruction of several Star Destroyers, typically with a smaller force, and had led to his promotion as well.

Then Peace had reigned and all ships were melted down into medals for all officers.

    Yeah, not quite.

It was during peace that Rhinn found himself even busier. The battles were the same, but the enemy was different. With his experience at hit and fades and smash and grabs, who was better than to deal with the same tactics as he was? His enemy now... pirates and maruaders attacking what is now Alliance facilities and resources.

So his most recent time was spent with defending against tactics that he had been perfecting against the Empire. Rhinn was able to adapt to the switch... not true with all officers.

Rhinn tossed down a few credits as a tip on his table and stood up to leave. Rumor had it that he would either remain with the 4th fleet, but move to a different task force, or that he would be moved to the 5th fleet over by Sullust. Truly either one was okay with him. A ship was a ship and the stars were the stars. As long as he had both, he would be happy.

Nodding to the bartender, Rhinn left the lounge and made his way to the Republic Room.
