No One Reads Books Any More

Jensen Hawkins is a bit of a weird character concept. The best comparison I can think of is Giles from Buffy: he's got a slightly mysterious past, but on the face of it he appears to be a fairly harmless History Professor, with an absolutely gargantuan private library with information about just about everything. Thing is, it's not just all old books: he's also something of an information broker, giving people answers in return for more information that he can add to his library.

He knows about all kinds of stuff. He might know stories - and have archives containing newspaper clippings, etc - about mutants with particular abilities; if you're a pyrokinetic, or are looking to find one / find out about them, he might be able to hook you up with books, point you in the direction of reference materials, or even help you find an actual pyrokinetic to talk to. If you're planning a bank robbery, and you're after a mutant who can walk through walls, Jensen might have newspaper cuttings about a girl from Illinois who can do that. Also, since there's a little bit of magic and other stuff creeping in; one of his areas of study is ancient religious practices, so he'd potentially be a big help as one of those "I can tell you what those symbols mean", "hey check out this grimlore", etc type people.

He's probably got people working for him, uncovering secrets to add to his library. That might mean he's got espionage/spy type people working for him. He might have mercenaries working from him who make use of his secrets to blackmail or manipulate people... the profits from which he then sinks back into gathering more information. He's maybe got some weighty investments in certain corporations that he's interested in / keeping an eye on as well... he might be on the board for Treadstone, for Jericho, or what have you.

Basically, he's an unholy blend of the Shadow Broker and the Kingpin... and I'm up for just about any excuse to write him.
