My only "concern" is that at this point the Mandarin seems almost like an audibly coherent version of Bane: using his army of terrorists to bring down Stark in order to teach him a lesson for being a hero.
That said, I like the look they've gone for. It seems that they're aiming more towards the "Descended from Genghis Khan" side of things than the questionably-appropriate full-on Chinese stereotype, which is cool.
Did anyone else notice the tattoo on the back of the Mandarin's neck, by the way? I didn't, but some eagle-eyed bastards on a few blog sites did. It's a Captain America shield, with the Avengers "A" in the centre. Intriguing...

Also, not sure how many of you noticed, but in certain preview shots showing the Iron Patriot, the name Lt. Col James Rhodes can be seen on the front of the armor. Certainly a departure from the original back story.
Definitely borrowing quite a bit from the Extremis storyline. That's not a bad thing.
^ Aye: from what I've read, they're pretty much doing a straight adaptation of Extremis, though they seem to have added Coldblood and Firepower into the mix; and AIM is involved somehow.
This seems to be a pretty common misconception circulating the internet. That suit isn't actually sporting the Iron Patriot paint job: it's painted up in Captain America colours.
Iron Patriot is mostly red: as you can see in this picture, the head and chests in particular are quite noticeably red, as well as the gloves and boots. By contrast, you can see in this set photo from the movie that Rhodey's helmet and chest are blue. Compare that to this Avengers screenshot, and the colour scheme is a much better match for Cap than it is for Patriot.
I think this is basically the embodiment of what Coulson said, about the world needing a little old fashioned. The world has been introduced to War Machine as a US Air Force asset, but then it went rogue and - along with the Hammeroids - smashed up the Stark Expo. The world has also just seen the Avengers, and they've seen the quite visibly patriotic Captain America saving the world from aliens. What better way to reassure the American public that War Machine is now playing for the home team than by painting him up like Captain America?

Oh who the fuck am I kidding. I'm the worst kind of fanboi when it comes to Iron Man and nothing here does anything more than make my boner for RDJ go away. In fact I have such a raging Iron Man boner that I am in danger of passing out from fanboi squealing
I think it looks awesome. It should blow away Iron Man 2.
