Design Purpose
To act as a replacement for the aging Imperial Katana-class Dreadnaught in its capacity as a primary combat vessel or supporting cruiser.

Design Explanations

The cruiser itself is coherent to the Imperial predisposition for designing ships along a primary axis. Unlike the Nebulon-B Frigate formerly used by the Empire, the Cuirassier-class Cruiser has no thin central spine that can be shattered by one concerted turbolaser salvo. Also, unlike the previous ship, armor is layered in all places, including the aft engine housing where the structure is at its thinnest.

The Cuirassier possesses a command tower like its larger cousins in the Star Destroyer-line. Just fore of said tower are the dorsal ion turrets, and fore of that the primary sensor dome that gives the ship a superb scanning reach. While no new systems have been introduced into this design, existing systems have been refined and refitted to create a smooth and sophisticated design.

Like most Imperial vessels, the Cuirassier has been built with a broadside mentality, but also has a considerable amount of weapons fore or located in positions that can be easily swiveled towards the bow.
