    General Quick weaponry question.

I'm not sure if any of you remember me, but I used to play Akrabbim Melchizan on here a ways back... Illusion Master and all that jazz. Anyway, I had a question about weaponry. I'm about to hop back into a thread, and I'm wanting to make sure that the weapons I have are still kosher. I RPed getting them way back, and no one had a problem with them then. I just wanna make sure nothing's changed.

I had two katanas, a dagger, and about 5 shuriken that were all created via Sith Alchemy. Since I'm a Jedi, the normal bonuses of those type of weapons wouldn't work for me. Basically, they'd just be weapons that'd stand up to a lightsaber and never need sharpening and wouldn't break, but other than that would be normal. Actually, I don't think the shuriken were originally made of that material, but I'd like to kinda retcon that in. Would that be ok?

I think as long as they have some understandable restrictions and you can't go around stabbing AT-AT's in the face with 'em, I think it's completely reasonable. I remember you put a lot of work into acquiring them, which most people don't bother doing with their own schwag.

EDIT: Also welcome back you damned disappearing jerk. STAY.

I can't imagine there being any problem with it. You clearly have weighed the pros and cons in favour of having weaponry that is fair, and with an interesting backstory. And welcome back, mate.

Awww, man... that was gonna be the ONE thing that my swords did... they had a +28 to AT-AT face-stabbing. Oh well, I guess I can be content without that bonus... :-(

Well, just as long as the AT-AT isn't pregnant.

    Hello Whitey

As I recall, you always were one of the 'common sense' fellows when it came to stuffs.

Until of course, I beat you senseless that time..

    H'lo thar! Welcome back.

Hrm. So if they stand up to lightsabers, are they made of some composite like cortosis weave? That would make sense.

Not quite... I read something a while back that stated that Sith were able to do... something... to metal that would make it unbreakable, even against lightsabers. It would also gain the ability to cut like a saber when the Dark Side was channeled through it. Since I'm a Jedi, I won't be using those features of it. It's considered a lost art, but I found them in an old, abandoned temple. Which, of course, are just lying scattered about.

What you're looking for is beskar. Mandalorian iron. Withstands lightsabers, up to a certain degree. Palpy had those special Jedi prison ships made out of it... from what I know it's not the metal in itself that makes it so strong, but something in the smithing process... can only be created by Mandalorian weapon smiths.... and since it's been around for a while and the Mandos worked together with the Sith from time to time, it might easily be explained that your character has them.

I guess it depends on how much weight you put behind The Old Republic games in terms of mechanics, rather than specific plot. In that, pretty much every kind of standard vibroblade is capable of standing up against a lightsaber. I guess one could argue that, with so many Sith around, it was necessary to mix in beskar (or something) back then, but now they rarely bother because there haven't been any "evil" lightsaber users for ages...

Are there any novels or anything that go along with the KOTOR games? If so, I may have to hunt them out, and see if they've mixed in any vibroblade-on-lightsaber duels or not.

Cortosis probably wouldn't fit the bill though; doesn't that make lightsabers turn off or something?

I know how much work went into RPing out Ak's getting his weapons, and you've balanced the pros with the cons very well as Droo said before. I'm fine with them.

To be honest, I think he's already established what he's using: swords made of metal altered by Sith alchemists. If he wanted beskar, the likelihood is it would change the backstory as to how his character acquired them, plus it sounds nowhere near as exotic.

And as for Captain's words about vibroblades, it was similar in Star Wars Galaxies and it made me cringe, melee classes going toe-to-toe with Jedi using standard weapons like vibroknucklers and gaffi sticks.

Aye... I understand the reasons for it, but still. Cringeworthy.

Then again a ship full of officers conveniently carrying swords around was a bit tenuous as a plot point anyway.

If it's already been roleplayed out in an awesome way previously, then something vague with the word "Sith" and "alchemy" in sounds like as good an excuse as any!

Any chance of finding the relevant RPing thread in ye olde archives somewhere, just out of idle curiosity?

It will be buried on ClassicFans somewhere, since I don't believe the Akmeister has been active since then.

Yes, that's compromise of game mechanics and nothing more - just like how, in Civilization, you can eventually kill a nuclear submarine with hunting spears.

I see nothing wrong with that. Spears put holes in submarine. Submarine sinks. Perfectly reasonable!

Did anyone else think that the graphic for a Settler - a covered wagon - in the original Civilization looked more like a guy with a hat and glasses? Or was that just me?
