Watch anything good lately? :)
Just watched "Tomorrow, When the War Began," again. I really like that movie. =)
Also been cycling through old episodes of Top Gear as I've been drawing.
Phineas and Ferb
Finally convinced my missus-to-be to give Doctor Who a try and she loves it. Just watching The Unquiet Dead.
Sporting Nation on ABC iView.
George Carlin: You Are All Diseased
(on Netflix)
Family Guy.
Saw an early screening of Starsa film scheduled for later this year. About guy who just lost his wife (and unborn kid) during childbirth. He's suicidal and is planning on throwing himself off the Rio Grande Gorge bridge on his next birthday.
On the road trip to get there, he has different adventures that make him rethink his decision that life isn't worth living.
Balances comedy and tragedy very well. I recommend it whenever it comes out.
Breaking Bad season 4.
Castle Season 4
Battleship.
As in the movie "based on the board game".
Surprisingly enjoyable. The plot is pretty simple, but the action scenes are cool, the visual effects are awesome, and there were quite a few bits that genuinely made me laugh. There's one obvious scene that emulates the board game, and it actually ended up being pretty cool rather than a cheese-fest.
Imagine if Michael Bay directed a two-hour big budget recruiting video for the US Navy... that's pretty much what it is.
I really enjoyed Battleship. I read a review where it was compared to Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor and deemed much, much, better.
I am in the middle of a rewatch of Jericho on Netflix. So, so good.
I watched a ton of Kitchen Nightmares, this weekend, until I was caught up. Then I moved on to Bar Rescue.
This year, at the BBC Proms, Daniel Barenboim conducts the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in a full cycle of the Beethoven symphonies. Tonight is the first installment, featuring the first and second symphonies. The whole thing culminates on Friday next week with the 9th. :D
Third and Fourth tonight. What's interesting is that, between the symphonies, they play a piece by contemporary classical composer Pierre Boulez. Barenboim believed this would provide a stark and refreshing contrast to Beethoven's works, and in that he is so right. It's mental to hear, last night they performed Dérive II, part of which can be heard here, it's a veritable kaleidoscope of sounds. On Twitter, the BBC provided an excellent feed over the 45 minute course of the piece, helping Boulez laymen like me to unravel the techniques and tones of the music.
Grand Prix, last night, as part of the Academy's 70 MM Film Festival. Really amazing on the big screen with the full sound and all. Those race sequences really hold up.
Tonight is going to be awesome. I will be watching the opening ceremony for the Olympic Games, and I can't wait for that, but first I have the joy of Beethoven's 9th about to begin on Radio 3, broadcasting live from the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. Tonight, life is good! :D
I need to know. What does "Proms" stand for? All it makes me think of are high school Prom, which is a school dance. Is it "Promotions"?
Can't wait for the Olympics, I'm going to be watching and watching and watching.
IN THE MEANTIME - Have you heard of or watched The Onion's Sex House? It is a parody of Big Brother-type reality shows and it... it... it's also descending into some sort of Kafkaesque nightmare.
Not Safe For Work (although it is censored)

The Henry Wood Promenade Concerts :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Promenade_concert
Ah! I was thinking it was something to do with television because of last year when you guys (brits;)) were so excited about the Dr. Who bit they were doing. But a concert makes sense with what Droo is saying about them this year. :) Thanks!
Watching the Olympic opening ceremony, amazing!!
It really is, and the highlight for me has to be James Bond and Her Maj. That was a stroke of pure genius!
Basically the greatest thing. GREAT BRITAIN. YES.
I've been playing catch-up with recent movies that I've missed lately. Today was How To Train Your Dragon.
Right now I am an equal mix of :cry and :eee
Edit:
And I also just watched Reign of Fire. I'm starting to think that Christian Bale convincing people that he's good at acting is the most successful scam of the century.
Watch Empire of the Sun, The New World, Rescue Dawn, The Prestige, and The Fighter. :colbert
:ohno blasphemer!
can I stone him from the forum?
I thought he was pretty good in The Machinist.
He wasn't memorably terrible in The Prestige, but he wasn't memorably anything else, either. I've just been watching an alarming number of movies lately where he isn't all that good... and the fact that people think he is good suggests that it's either a really successful scam, or he's a horribly inconsistant performer.
I'm watching Alphas. And it's so good. :)
No offense Jace, but I'm assisting Razzy in stoning you and evicting you for bad taste. ;)
Batman & Robin (on ITV2)
Hilariously bad
"Never leave the cave without it."
:rolleyes
Enjoying the third series of Being Human. I love the old cast, especially George, who never fails to get me howling. No pun intended!
Limpics! :dance
Snow White and the Scottish Thor.
Preparing to get my Glen on, yo. :smokin
Doctor Who, The Eleventh Hour
:3:
some episodes of Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends
Alphas.
Just watched the first couple of episodes. Seems like it's going to be a fairly standard format - a team-based procedural show with weekly character angst like House, CSI, NCIS, Criminal Minds, Bones, etc - but wrapped up in a cool superpowers premise. They've had some interesting practical real-world powers thus far, and the way they're showing the powers through special effects is pretty cool.
Season 1 only has 11 episodes and they've only just started Season 2... worth a look if you fancy something new to watch. :)
Edit:
Also, the theme tune is epic! :ohno
Unfortunately there's no full version of the song; apparently they just wrote 30 seconds specifically to use as the theme. :(
Watched Chronicle last night. Pretty good "found footage" mixed with super powers experiment. Not terribly great, but I thought it was very interesting.
^ I quite enjoyed that too, although it was a little bit predictable. Especially when it went all DBZ at the end.
Alphas is great, Jace. I highly highly recommend it. Some of the best written characters on TV, imo. :) Even the small parts like Gary's Mom are utterly compelling.
I binge-watched Alphas pretty much in one go - I couldn't bring myself to sleep until I'd watched it all, and then I dove straight into the internet discussion about stuff. Luckily for me Season 1 was only 11 episodes, so it wasn't too monumental a task.
Thank goodness for Nina finally getting some character development in Season 2. Now I can pretend I like her because she's a good character, and not just because she's pretty. :uhoh
Jonathan Creek :D
Since it's Whoday, I'll be shortly watching Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, although it grieves me to discover it's airing at the same time as the Last Night of the Proms, meaning I'll miss the first half, but then there's always iPlayer.
Watched a whole bunch of Merlin season 1 during my travels today. Actually really getting into this series now.
Watching Wicked at the Victoria Apollo!
I'm watching both 2nd Doctor Who Seasons. Btw the German version of "exterminate" is not "exterminieren", but "eliminieren" as well as "vernichten". German Daleks are more creative, they use two words...
^ Is that Step 4 of world domination: ensure your Daleks have a wider vocabulary than ours? :uhoh
^^that is actually step 5 step 4 is building Cybermen with British accent. That diploma in mechatronical engineering must be good for something in the end!
but since we're so efficient, we're doing steps 4 and 5 at the same time
But I like exterminieren :(
Casino Royale. The scene in which he and Vesper meet is perfection. And speaking of perfection: Hellooo, DBS.
Firefly, episode 11 :)
What I've Watched Recently:
Revolution (new TV show) - pretty decent thus far! Only two episodes in
Alphas (Syfy tv show) - STILL AWESOME YOU SHOULD WATCH IT
Attack the Block (movie) - awesome. Loved it!
Last Resort (Tv show starting tomorrow pilot is online CBS.com) - an incredibly strong pilot, you should check it out. By Shawn Ryan (of The Shield)
DREDD 3D - we didn't watch it in 3d but it was just perfection. Seriously. Get your butt to the theatre to watch this movie. Karl Urban was great, especially considering all his emoting was with his chin.
Ermmm... if you like TV comedies check out Go On and New Girl.
If you like reality shows where it's a contest and the people are seriously talented makeup artists, watch Face Off. So good.
Just watched the first episode of the new Red Dwarf series. I wasn't disappointed; it wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. The teaser for the next episode looks much better.
The Great British Bake Off final
why am I so fascinated by people making cakes?
Just started watching Avatar: The Last Airbender (series). One episode in and I'm already liking it. :)
watched Scream and Scream 2 last night
tis the season, after all :D
I finally watched Prometheus on the airplane. And then I watched Black Swan? Of course, I use the term 'watched' very lightly, because there was a lot of gasping and covering my eyes and humming while Iooked out the window at the scary/gruesome bits. Black Swan was actually way, way more frightening! :ohno
Also, I want my own David8, even if he is a secretly vindictive asshole. "The trick, William Potter, is not minding that it hurts." :dance
^ I'm not sure whether to feel sorry for the people sitting next to you, or envious of the pure entertainment value of your movie squeamishness. :lol
Archer is on Netflix UK now, happy times!
The Vampire Diaries. I'm on episode 6 of season one which apparently where it starts taking off and doesn't look back. I am enjoying it very much!
Cockneys vs Zombies
Been slowly working our way through Torchwood. We do an episode a night. I'm glad that it got better in the second season.
Scream 3
so meta it hurts
Arrow
It's really good, guys. Like, really good.
http://vimeo.com/50119635 he does his own stunts
I've watched the first couple of episodes of that; I've got the Deadshot/Deathstroke stuff to look forward to later. Really enjoying it so far, even if it does make me envious of America's ridiculously large ice cream containers!
As expected they've tried to put a little bit of a Batman Begins vibe in there: but they've put a Robin Hood spin on it, which is working so far. They're treading a very fine line: Green Arrow became a vigilante to help people, whereas Batman became a vigilante to hurt criminals (in a nutshell)... I hope they can continue to maintain that difference.
Our ice cream containers are not ridiculous!
They are awesome.
Live Beaver Cam! :o
Portlandia!
It's exactly how I imagine your life is :P
Every time you point I see a penis. :colbert
:lol
I think your browser has a virus :B
Portlandia is such a magical show :D the bit about the mayor of Portland wanting a theme song for the city is my favorite; brought back those lovely rivalry tendencies that I used to have while living in Seattle :)
I just started watching 'Once Upon A Time'.
If you haven't watched it yet, give it a go. It's cheesy, and it may not be everyone's cup of tea... but it's warm gooey cheese, with plenty of grin-worthy references and a twisty plot that has done a surprisingly good job of keeping me on the edge of my seat. The story seems simple, but it's unfolding in a really cool and intriguing way. I'm already getting pretty invested in some of the characters too... which, given the episode I just watched, has me a bit sad and angry right now. (You'll know what I mean when you see it :() Robert Carlisle is once again playing a fantastic villain... and I get an excuse to sigh longingly at Jennifer Morrison, which is an added plus.
Also, it took me fifteen minutes to realise that the Jiminy Cricket guy looked and sounded so damned familiar because it was in fact Raphael Sbarge. Damn you for having Kaidan's voice but not his face. :shakefist
Just bashed through 2,585 words of Nanowrimo so I'm rewarding myself with an episode of trashy TV: Young Apprentice
I caught up to current on The Vampire Diaries. The plot moves like a goddamn freight train. It is awesome.
The third season finale had me in tears. :cry
We just watched Men In Black 3 - it was actually alright :)
Doctor Who A Christmas Carol 2010
Goal for this year watch enough Doctor Who in order to watch the Xmas Episode the day after it airs!
Downton Abbey
my new hangover telly
I've been watching Raising Hope. It's a good unwinding show after work, and I adore Cloris Leachman as it is.
Before that I watched Blackadder 1, 2, 3, and half of 4. I can't decide if I like 2 or 3 the most, heh.
Also, Charley and I are working our way through 30 Rock. It's like a life story almost of Rachel, Charley, and Myself. Mostly Rachel.
Brave
Edit: Post was too short. :(
Grimm just ruined Amy Acker. :cyduck
series 3 of Downton
have become addicted to this :uhoh
John Carpenter's The Thing. I've never seen it before, and so far I'm enjoying it :)
It's twenty past three in the morning. I just heard raucous laughter from my housemates room. I snuck up to the door to see what was going on, and what should I hear?
"Lana! Lana! Lana!"
"What?!"
"Dangerzone..."
Introduction to Archer: successful. :smokin
re-watching Freaks and Geeks
Charley and I binged on Sherlock all day yesterday. I love that series!
When we finished series one and two, we went back to 30 Rock and gorged ourselves on that. It was a wonderful lazy day.
I guess I will finally watch all of Chuck and Fringe some time next year!Quote:
November 29, 2012—Netflix Inc. and Warner Bros. International Television Distribution today announced a multi-year licensing agreement allowing Netflix members in the U.K. and Ireland to exclusively enjoy complete previous seasons of some of the hottest series on American television.
The first three seasons of hit teen supernatural drama The Vampire Diaries come to Netflix on December 1, while seasons one through five of saucy young adult favorite Gossip Girl begin on March 1. Later in 2013, four seasons of the J.J. Abrams-created science fiction show Fringe will be available to watch instantly as will all five seasons of Chuck, the beloved hybrid action-comedy, spy-drama that completed its American run in January.
Ooooooh...
Guess I'll be able to start watching Vampire Diaries after I'm done with Warehouse 13, then!
we need the first parts of Warehouse 13 grrr.....Syfy isn't replaying them now and Hulu has the last episodes which does nothing.
Right now we're watching Rizzoli and Isles.
... Freaks and Geeks... I know that somewhere. oh! Claudia!
Inside Claridge's
I want to stay there :3:
Alice in Wonderland
Specifically the Tim Burton one. I'm not normally a Burton fan (I find his films decidedly average, and people's insistence that they're the best thing ever kinda rubs me up the wrong way), but I actually quite enjoyed it. In places it felt a little bit too much about Johnny Depp (but then, what isn't?), and the CGI was a little iffy on a few occasions, but overall it looked great (I especially liked the fact that the Jabberwocky breathed lightning instead of fire), and it actually managed to make some morality points without being too heavy-handed about it.
I guess the number of Tim Burton movies I will willingly watch again has increased to two. (The other is Batman)
You mean you don't like Edward Scissorhands? :(
Honestly, I didn't even realise that was a Tim Burton movie. It's been so long since I watched it that I don't remember what happened, or whether or not I enjoyed it.
After Big Fish all of Burton's movies are pretty much the same thing anyway.
Dark Shadows is Good. It feels like a Pilot for a TV show that was never picked up.
Just watched Aladdin. Not exactly traditional Christmas fare but still :3:
